PINETTE PEI launches the largest thermoplastic press for composites material forming

PINETTE PEI (France) a key player in industrial solutions for the stamping forming of composite materials, announces the commissioning of its Large-Scale Stamping Press, a revolutionary thermoplastic press in terms of size and performance.

With 5 m x 2 m platens and a forming force of 30,000 kN (3,000 T), this press is the largest ever designed for stamping thermoplastic composites. It will play a key role in the next generation of the aerospace industry, where composite materials are essential for reducing weight, improving repairability and enhancing recyclability.

Cutting-edge technology for the composites industry

The development of this press required major engineering advances to guarantee both exceptional geometric precision and optimized thermal management. Its main features are as follows:

  • Ultra-fast transfer of material from infrared heater to press in less than 5 seconds.
  • Advanced multi-functionality, with autonomous robotic systems for release agent application, sensor coupling, dummy part handling and tool positioning.
  • Optimized energy management, using preheating and cooling stations for efficient, even heat transfer via thermal oil circulation.
  • Automated tool changeover and transfer, enhancing production flexibility.

A strategic partnership with AIRBUS

This technology will be integrated into the Airbus Aerostructures facilities in Bremen and  It will support the ramp-up in production of new-generation thermoplastic composite parts, boosting the competitiveness of the European aerospace industry.

A step forward for the industry of the future

Thanks to this innovation, aerospace and automotive manufacturers will be able to produce large-scale components with unrivalled performance. This technological leap opens the way to more sustainable and efficient production, in line with the decarbonization and circular economy objectives of the sector’s major players.
