IUST hosts conference on advanced materials for health, energy

Rising Kashmir online news reported at its website that the Department of Chemistry, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), in collaboration with DST-PURSE and supported by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), organized a two-day international conference on Advanced Materials for Health, Environment, and Energy (ICAMHEE-2025).
The event, held at the IUST campus, brought together renowned experts, researchers, and scholars to explore advancements in materials science and its critical role in addressing global challenges.
At the inaugural session of the conference, Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor of IUST, underscored the importance of research for India’s vision to emerge as a global economic superpower. He reiterated IUST’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030, emphasizing the development of sustainable technologies and the harnessing of renewable energy. He also lauded IUST for being the only university in India identified to provide financial support of up to ₹50 lakhs to promising startups, a step towards promoting innovation and entrepreneurship.
Prof. A.H. Moon, Dean Academic Affairs, highlighted the significance of intense and quality research at IUST in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP). Prof. Sheikh Javid Ahmed, Dean Research IUST, provided an insightful overview of the DST project and emphasized the multidisciplinary approach to research at IUST. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Aabid H. Shalla, Dean School of Sciences, and Dr. Nisar Ahmad Dangroo, proposed vote of thanks.
Distinguished experts from national and international institutions will be joining the conference, and the eminent speakers includes Prof. Partha Sarathi Mukherjee from IISc Bangalore, Prof. Shanmugaraju Sankarasekaran from IIT Palakkad, Kerala, Prof. C. Sivasankar from Pondicherry University, Prof. Umadevi Deivasigamani from IIT Kerala, Prof. Sourav Pal from Ashoka University, Prof. Vandana Bhalla from Guru Nanak Dev University, Prof. Kheireddine El-Boubbou from the University of Bahrain, Prof. Kowsar Majid from NIT Srinagar, Prof. Raymond J. Butcher from Howard University, Washington DC, USA, Prof. Raja Mitra from IIT Goa, and Prof. Vitthal B. Saptal from Politecnico di Milano, Italy. Their participation added immense value to the conference, contributing to insightful discussions and knowledge exchange.
Oral and poster presentations by faculty members, research scholars, and students from various institutions, along with poster presentations will also be part of the conference, as reported in the Rising Kashmir website.
