Exel Composites announced that its joint venture Kineco Exel Composites India (KECI) has received a purchase order for the supply of pultruded carbon fiber planks for spar caps to a major wind turbine manufacturer in South Asia. The order value amounts to approximately EUR 10 million. The purchase order will be recorded in Exel Composites’ first quarter 2025 order intake and order backlog. The manufacturing of the planks is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2025 and deliveries to gradually ramp up during 2025, extending into 2026. The products will be delivered from KECI’s new factory in India, which manufactures composites with pultrusion and is optimized for serving wind power industry in India and globally.
The purchase order is based on a multi-year agreement announced in the first quarter of 2024, including an annual minimum commitment from the customer to KECI. The parties have agreed not to disclose the customer's name.
Spar caps, which utilize carbon planks, are essential structural components within wind turbine blades, providing the strength, stiffness, and load-bearing capacity needed to withstand the dynamic forces encountered during operation. As wind turbines continue to increase in size, carbon fiber composites will play a crucial role in meeting the demanding mechanical requirements needed for these advancements.
“We are delighted to receive this purchase order that follows the significant development work to meet the customer’s stringent quality requirements. The order also marks an important milestone for our new factory in India. With the new factory, we are now very well placed to serve the various needs of wind power customers,” says Paul Sohlberg, President and CEO of Exel Composites.
“We are pleased with the confidence placed by the customer in KECI. By utilizing KECI’s new factory in India, customers will be able to avail themselves of state-of-the-art carbon fiber planks produced competitively in India,” says Shekhar Sardessai, Chairman & Managing Director of Kineco Group.
Exel Composites and Kineco Exel Composites India (KECI) offer wind turbine manufacturers a comprehensive range of glass fiber and carbon fiber composite components required for the manufacturing of modern onshore and offshore wind turbines. Kineco Exel Composites India (KECI) was established in 2021 as a joint venture between Exel Composites and the Indian company Kineco Group.
